Arenal mass

Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Feb 22, 2010 3:46 pm

i am a 36 yo woman and mother of 3 children. I was diagnosed with a 5 cm adrenal mass on Jan 4 2010. I am scheduled for a left adrenalectomy on Wednesday Feb. 17. My labs and 24 hour urine are all normal. I am scared to death about the possibility of cancer because of everything I have read on the internet about this. I would love to have someone to chat with about this situation that may shed some light. I am nervous that it may be cancer.

My father was diagnosed with an adrenal tumor on his RIGHT side, they did surgery and it turned out it was cancerous. He went through chemo and radiation and the are no more signs of cancer on his Right side after only one round. I also know a girl i work with, who has the same symptoms of my father but her tumor was on her LEFT side, she under went surgery and her tumor was non cancerous. my fathers was functioning and the girl i work with was non-functioning, so i guess it all depends, but best of luck to you!

Hope all is well, and the tumor was not cancer. My husband had an adrenal carcinoma removed in 2006 that was 20cm in length, with no follow-up chemo. They were sure that it had been completely removed. In November of 2009 they noticed a spot on each lung measuring approx. 2mm in length. They were removed in December and they were cancer cells that had broke away during his first surgery. Once again no follow-up chemo. Very little is known about this type of cancer, and most doctors are unsure how to treat it. My husband will have a CT scan every 3 months for the rest of his life, and hopefully if it returns it can be removed surgerically. Hopefully your tumor is benign and it will not give you any more problems!! GOOD LUCK.
