surgical biopsy/lumpectomyRecently I had a surgical biopsy to remove a very small (less than 4mm) lesion in right breast, located about 5mm under the edge of the nipple. Surgeon said I'd just have a small scar. But he took out a huge amount of tissue, it averaged 2.5 cm in diameter, more than 10% of the breast. Surgeon now saying this is "normal" margin. I don't believe it; I think the wire locator was inserted too far into the breast. I have no desire for malpractice action, but would simply like to know the truth. Has this ever happened to anyone else getting a surgical biopsy? BTW, I did not have cancer, the lesion was benign, but I now have to get a small prosthetic filler to make my breasts look the same. I am not a happy camper.
