Should I go with my gut feelingI was just diagnosised with having Cervical cancer. My Dr. said it is one stage below invasive cancer after doing a Biopsy from the LEEP surgery. According to what I am told, via a letter...I have an appt on Monday...yes it is great to hear this news via a letter, that they want to do a cone Biopsy. Each time I get a biopsy the news seems to be worse than before...Now mind you this is all in less than a month. The other option over the cone biopsy is a Vaginal Hystrectomy(sp). My grandmother and my aunt both died of Uterine Cancer. My Aunt just died last March. I have other members of the family that also have died of Uterine Cancer. My question would I right to tell the Dr, NO to another Biopsy, but just do the Vaginal Hysterectomy and quit playing with all these Biopsies, in light of my family history? If I don't have it now I feel sure I will, with knowing my family history. I am 49 yrs old, so having kids is no longer something I am considering. It is not about the money, it is about -IMO -doing preventative maintenance if you will. Would really like some input on this.
Re: Should I go with my gut feelingHere is my story. I am 56 with 2 grown sons in their 30s. About 4 years ago my annual pap came back with abnormal results. Dysplasia - who knew? Since then, I have had several LEEPs and other procedures to monitor and treat the dysplasia. The last LEEP was July . Results were not good - still "severe dysplasia with carcinoma in situ". At this point, my GYN is advising going ahead with vaginal hysterectomy (hope that is spelled right) if possible and follow up with paps every 3 months for a year. I just want the darned thing cleared up. There is no history of cervical, vaginal, or ovarian cancer in my family. Is anyone in a similar situation? Advice would be welcom. THanks.
