Breast cancer....

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Aug 13, 2004 7:42 pm

I was diagnosed with bc on Feb.2/04.The tumor was about 4cm. The oncologist suggested 6 months of cef chemotherapy to shrink the tumor and possibly get rid of the tumor. He said after chemo I would have a lumpectomy followed by radiation treatments. I went to see the surgeon on Aug. 11/04 and he did an examination and said he can't feel any of the tumor at all which is wonderful but now he tells me I may have to have a masectomy!!! I am to go for a mammogram on Monday. What I don't understand is why did they put me through all of this chemo in the first place if they are going to remove my breast? When I was first dx the dr. said lumpectomy would be the way to go because it is less evasive surgery.....I think a masectomy is pretty darn evasive!!
Does anyone have any answers for this dilemna?????
I would appreciate any answers...Thank you....
