My dad’s story

Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Nov 10, 2008 3:06 pm

My 81 year old father was recently diagnosed with stage III stomach cancer. What began with “severe acid reflux” turned out to be a very large “bleeding” tumor in the upper stomach. The tumor was also obstructing the passageway from his esophagus. The tumor was found through endoscopy and removed, along with the spleen, 3 days later. My father has NO HISTORY of illness. My Dad will be 80 years old on Jan 25 and was just diagnosed with stomach cancer. They said it was a bleeding tumor in the lower part of his stomach. A large friable gastric mass at the junction of the body and antrum, along the greater curve. They did a biopsy and it came back as stomach cancer.
We are scheduled for an appointment with a surgeon in the next day as we do not know what stage or what options we have.

My dad said nothing hurts him and has not complained of any stomach problems but we have noticed weight loss. His appetite has also curbed down a bit.

My dad is my rock and my foundation. He is not only my parent, but my best friend.

I am my parents primary care taker and have been very close to both of them. We are shocked at this finding and I especially do not know how to deal with this devastation. My mom is also shocked at the thought of losing her love of 57 years.

What are the chances of survival after surgery????

My prayers are with all who are going through this horrible disease.
