minor salivary gland adenocarcinoma of the palate

Post a new topicby paulal on Wed Sep 26, 2007 7:16 pm

Hi! I recently underwent surgery (maxillectomy) to remove a cancerous tumor located in the right hard palate. Because clean margins were not obtained, I was given 8 weeks of radiation with a weekly dose of cystplatin. Has anyone undergone something similar? I am especially interested in feedback regarding recovery after radiation.

Hi there,

I also had salivary gland cancer in the minor glands in my hard palette. I had a wide excision of the hard palette surgery to remove the tumor. Lucky for me, I had a completely negative margin, so I opted against having radition. Although, if it comes back, I'll probably have to go through it just like you did. My cancer was Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma. Not exactly the same as yours but most of the cancer websites seem to group all the salivary gland cancers together anyway. I just wanted to pass along my website and my e-mail to you. Feel free to contact me to if you want to know more about my recovery. I may need to e-mail you in the future if i end up needing radiation, too.
My website is www.mucoepi.com, and my e-mail is [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed].

Thanks ~ Ash
