Mouth pain continues six years after tongue cancer

Post a new topicby vcaddell on Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:56 pm

I was diagnosed with stage I tongue cancer in 2001 and had surgery followed by 33 radiation treatments which I finished in early 2002. It took almost a year to fully recover but I did with the exception of being plagued by numbness of tongue and chin, and of course dry mouth. Now, since July, 2007 I've had pain and discomfort in the scar tissue area which my doctor says must be a neuroma since all other test check out fine and my pain does respond to Neurontin. Has anyone else experienced this pain and can I expect to have it for years to come or will it go away with time. Also are there any other treatments that can be recommended other than surgery, which my doctor is very reluctant to do given my slow healing time.
